San Emeritus Cleared by PPB to Import New Medical Devices

San Emeritus, a leading medical diagnostics company in East Africa, is proud to announce that it has been cleared by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) to import some new medical devices that are not registered in Kenya, but are essential for the provision of quality health care.

The PPB is the drug regulatory authority in Kenya, established under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Chapter 244 of the Laws of Kenya. The PPB regulates the practice of pharmacy, the manufacture and trade of drugs and poisons, and the quality and safety of medicines and medical devices.

One of the functions of the PPB is to issue import permits for drugs and medical devices that are not registered in Kenya, but are needed for special purposes or emergencies. This process involves submitting an application form, a proforma invoice, and a certificate of analysis from the manufacturer. The PPB then evaluates the application and issues an import permit if the product meets the required standards and specifications.

The new medical devices that San Emeritus has been authorized to import and use in Kenya include:

  • Endotracheal tube: a flexible tube that is inserted into the trachea (windpipe) through the mouth or nose to assist with breathing during surgery or in cases of respiratory failure.
  • Suction catheter: a sterile tube that is used to remove secretions such as mucus or saliva from the mouth, trachea, and bronchial tubes of critically ill patients.

Suction catheter closed system: a suction catheter that is attached to the ventilator circuit and allows for suctioning without disconnecting the patient from the ventilator. This reduces the risk of infection and oxygen loss.

Yankauer suction set: a rigid plastic suction device that is used to remove blood and fluids from the surgical site or the mouth and throat.

  • Nelaton catheter: a soft plastic tube that is inserted into the bladder through the urethra to drain urine. It is used for short-term bladder catheterization or for patients who cannot use a Foley catheter.
  • Manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) kit: a kit that consists of a syringe and a cannula that are used to evacuate the contents of the uterus in cases of incomplete abortion, molar pregnancy, or termination of pregnancy.
  • Guedel airway: a rigid plastic tube that is placed in the mouth to prevent the tongue from blocking the airway in unconscious patients. It is used to facilitate ventilation and oxygenation.

These products are manufactured by reputable companies and have been approved by the PPB for importation and use in Kenya. San Emeritus is a leading supplier of medical devices and equipment in Kenya, with a mission to provide quality and affordable health care solutions to the Kenyan market. San Emeritus is committed to complying with the PPB regulations and standards, and to ensuring customer satisfaction and safety.
